What is Bidirectional

In electronics, bidirectional is a term used to indicate bidirectional transmission or operation.

It refers to the ability of signals or data to travel in both directions. Several electronic components may use this term. Some examples include:

Communication interfaces that support bi-directional communication: For example, a Universal Serial Bus (USB) port can transmit data in both directions, enabling bi-directional communication between a device and a computer.

Bidirectional Switch: A bidirectional switch is a switch that can control the flow of current in both directions depending on the state of the switch. This provides the ability to change the direction of flow of current in a circuit.

Bidirectional Data Buffer: A bidirectional data buffer is a device used to store and pass data in both directions. This allows data to be read and written in both directions, and can be used for communication with peripherals in a microcontroller, for example.

In addition to this, the bidirectional property can be used in various electronic components, and can have various meanings depending on specific contexts or applications.
