What is Capacitor


A capacitor is an electronic component that stores electrical energy in an electric field. It consists of two conductive plates separated by an insulating material called a dielectric.

When a voltage is applied across the conductive plates, an electric field is created, and electrical energy is stored in the field. When the voltage is removed, the energy stored in the electric field is released.

Capacitors are used in a wide range of electronic applications, including power supplies, filters, timing circuits, and coupling or decoupling of signals.
